Breastfeeding is recommended if a mother suffers from postnatal depression as it helps her bond with her baby. However, if the mother is taking antidepressants she may be reluctant to breastfeed in case the medication can affect her baby. The Breastfeeding Network has published an information sheet that provides useful information with regards to taking antidepressants whilst breastfeeding. If you wish to read more on the subject.
