The ABM can offer a variety of support options, depending on who you are and the information you need.
ABM helpline: 0300 330 5453 — Open every day 9.30 am – 10.30 pm.
National Breastfeeding Helpline: 0300 100 0212 — Open every day 9.30 am – 9.30 pm. Visit this page for more information about the NBH.
Calls to the NBH are answered by trained ABM Breastfeeding Counsellors and BfN Breastfeeding Supporters in their own homes. Calls to the ABM helpline are answered only by trained ABM Breastfeeding Counsellors. You will be connected to the first available volunteer. They will not necessarily be in the same area as you and may not have local knowledge but will be able to support you in your breastfeeding journey. A message on the line will advise the caller that they are being put through to the next available volunteer. If all volunteers are busy the caller will hear a message asking them to call back later.
Calls to these numbers cost the same as a landline call to a 01 or a 02 number (about 5p per minute from BT lines plus 3p call set up charge from BT residential lines) and the price is the same for calls from mobiles. 0300 numbers are included in any discount schemes or inclusive call minutes that you may already have with landline or mobile phone operators.
We are able to answer your non-urgent breastfeeding questions via email. However, some situations are easier to discuss on the phone as then we can ask about all the relevant details.
If you do want to email us please include as much information as possible in your initial email including your baby’s age and how they are currently fed so we can more accurately reply to your questions or concerns. We aim to reply within five working days.
