Relactation and Adoptive Breastfeeding
Breastfeeding an adopted child is a possibility of which few are aware. It is not necessary to be pregnant or to have functioning ovaries to be able to lactate (this is known as induced lactation). It is also possible to breastfeed again a previously weaned baby, which is known as relactation.
This booklet is a practical guide for a mother considering breastfeeding her adopted baby and for the mother wishing to re-establish her milk supply after a short or long interruption.
